New Opportunities Food Pantry Program

New Opportunities Food Pantry in Iowa

Food insecurity affects more than 345,000 Iowans—children, seniors, veterans, families, and individuals who struggle to access enough nutritious food for a healthy life. At New Opportunities, we are committed to providing essential food assistance through our network of Iowa food pantries, offering hope, dignity, and nourishment to those in need. We are a local Iowa nonprofit organization and a proud partner of the Food Bank of Iowa and local food rescue programs.

While state food assistance programs like SNAP benefits and WIC provide vital support, they often fall short in covering the full nutritional needs of struggling and low-income households. That’s where New Opportunities steps in—with the help of generous community members like you.

What Is Food Insecurity?

Food insecurity means not knowing where your next meal will come from. It can affect anyone—parents trying to feed their children, older adults on fixed incomes, individuals living with disabilities, or hardworking families who simply don’t earn enough to cover basic needs. In Iowa:

  • 10.8% of residents experience food insecurity.
  • Over 110,000 children face hunger each day.
  • Many rely on support from food pantries to fill critical nutritional gaps.

Food insecurity impacts more than just hunger—it can affect physical health, mental well-being, and a person's ability to succeed at work or in school.

More Than a Pantry: Additional Support Services

New Opportunities is more than a food pantry—we’re your partner in community well-being. We also offer:

  • Heating and utility assistance
  • Substance use disorder treatment
  • Education and youth support services
