Water Assistance (LIHWAP)
What Is LIHWAP?
The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) is designed to offer utility assistance for low-income families in Iowa. This water bill assistance program can help low-income renters and low-income homeowners pay past-due water bills and water reconnection fees.
LIHWAP Eligibility
To apply for LIHWAP, applicants must meet the income eligibility guidelines, have legal U.S. status, and demonstrate a water burden. A water burden can include being behind on water bill payments, having water disconnected, etc. This form of financial support for low-income families is meant to help families catch up on past-due water bills so that they are in a better position to afford future bills.
